Is used to step down the 12 VOLT battery to 6 VOLTS. The purpose of the resistor is to limit the voltage to the coil when using a 12 volt battery. The ballast resistor is used to increase a 6 volt coil OHM resistance from 1.5 OHMS (for 6 volt batteries) to 3.0 OHMS (for 12 volt batteries). The resistor will dissipate considerable heat. Instruction included.
